Exciting news! Overleaf is now collaborating with Caltech to provide Pro accounts to all students, faculty and staff.

    Overleaf training on-campus at Caltech

On Wednesday, January 27th, the Library’s Research Services department coordinated an Overleaf training as part of their instruction program for Caltech students, faculty and staff. In the words of Department Head Gail Clement:

"Overleaf is a key component of our 'Author Carpentry' initiative that promotes best practices in scientific communication and publishing."

The @CaltechLibrary training was a success! It was well attended and featured a slide presentation with live demos of the cloud-based online authoring tool by @Overleaf co-founder, John Hammersley. Attendees had an opportunity to ask questions and become familiar with the Overleaf Pro Accounts, templates and associated support offered by the Caltech Library Overleaf collaboration.

The Caltech Library team has worked closely with Overleaf to further develop the custom Caltech Overleaf Portal which offers easy sign up, thesis templates, journal templates and additional helpful resources related to LaTeX authoring for the Caltech campus community.

I had the privilege of being on site for the training. While there, Donna Wrublewski, Chemistry and Biology Librarian, Kathy Johnson, Author Services and Repository Librarian, and I even made time for a quick photo shoot with the #overleaftravelduck near the duck pond on campus.

Gail and I are collaborating on a Poster/Demo session for the April FORCE2016 Conference in Portland, OR, featuring the development and use of a custom portal to support scientific authoring at institutions.

Many thanks to the Caltech Library for such innovative collaboration and for hosting a productive Overleaf LaTeX authoring training session for the campus community!
